We are excited to be working with CAFOD to introduce River Power Pod as part of their work in Africa to bring fresh water and energy to schools and communities.
Our first project is in Embu, Kenya: working with a girls' school, boys' school and technical college. By installing our innovative in-stream hydro-turbines, providing training and developing local manufacturing capability we can reduce the high cost associated with electricity in Kenya; money which can instead be used to support disadvantaged children's education and training. Father Maina (director of Don Bosco, Embu) notes how "it will improve the quality of education by giving students the opportunity to study at night. It will provide jobs for the youth, who will be manufacturing turbines and raising revenue for the school to train more needy and poor students. It will create lasting links between the UK and Kenya. This will enrich students and people from both countries."
This technology is needed, so we need you.
Please grab your friends, grab your selfie sticks and get outside! We have launched our official fundraising campaign to start providing safe and secure energy to people in need in Africa. Please download the RPP Africa Project Logo file below, print it out and take a picture of yourselves holding the logo with some form of flowing water in the image.* Then post your image on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/RiverPowerPodAfricaProject/. Any donations to the project would be very much appreciated, please donate on our JustGiving page: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/River-Power-Pod-Africa-Project or simply text the code RPPA99 followed by the amount, e.g.£5, to 70070.
By donating £10.00 you would enable us to buy 50 of the bolts we need to install the turbine.
For the price of a regular coffee, £2.25, we could buy 50 of the nuts we need.
For the price of a posh coffee, £3.70, it could cover a local Welder's wages for a day to help build the mooring installation kit.
*Please take care when taking your picture, do it safely! No need for any extreme action, flowing water can be hazardous; please make sure you and your friends are not endangering yourselves and make sure you have a stable place to take your picture from.
